Photo Editing
Assignment Title: Getting the Look I Want
Uses in the Classroom: Using copyright friendly photographs, students will modify photos to create web graphics for their web portfolios and websites. Students can use to reflect the project they are assigned to visually represent what they are trying to say. For example, in the animated GIF above I chose to reflect my favorite comics as a kid. I have gone to see every blockbuster move that has come out in theatres. A connection that I can make with my students and also a good segue into using copyright friendly pictures reflect a point in an appropriate way. Specifically in my Web Development class, students create three web graphics for a customer in the mid-term project. One is where they are provided with a landscape image of grass and trees. They have to find images to manipulate and use the tools in GIMP to create an advertising graphic image to be posted on the website.
Issues to Consider: Time and equipment. Searching for copyright friendly pictures may take a bit of time as well as positioning in the animated gif.

Assignment Title: Skills Employers Seek Infographic
Uses in the Classroom: Students will appraise their patterns of time management using habit 3 Putting First Things First and create an infographic reflecting their time in groups of one. This would be an excellent activity when teaching life skills to students where they can visualize their use of time. I teach a seminar class where we focus on career planning using the text "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens". This activity would show my students how they use their time to adjust for success.
Issues to Consider: Play with different infographic sites to find the most user friendly. Also ensure saving, embedding, or linking activity is/is not linked to registration and/or login.
